A 53-year-old man was killed after a two-alarm fire broke out Sunday at a home in Northern Westchester.
The blaze, on the 1700 block of Baldwin Road just east of the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown Heights, began just before 5 p.m., with the home quickly fully engulfed in flames.
The man was the lone occupant in the house, Yorktown Police said. He was unconscious when firefighters arrived. After he was removed from the home, it was apparent he was deceased, Yorktown Police said.
More than 75 firefighters and EMS personnel responded.
In addition to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department, multiple agencies assisted, including the Buchanan Engine Company, Bedford Hills Fire Department, Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, Millwood Fire Department, Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association, Ossining Fire Department and Somers Volunteer Fire Department.
Also responding were the Yorktown Police Department, Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Yorktown/Empress Emergency Medical Services Paramedics and Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.
The name of the man who died has not yet been released.
Investigators from the Westchester County Fire and Origin team entered the house to investigate after the fire was contained, joined by members of the Yorktown firefighters and members of the Yorktown Police Department.
It has not yet been determined what triggered the start of the fire, Yorktown Police said.
